Ask William Taggart who influenced him to become a volunteer firefighter and the names come rapid fire: “My dad, Dale Taggart, who is a former Livingston Manor firefighter. I also had Bo, and Billy. And Colin and Mikey. They all encouraged me, let me be the little kid shadowing them, and they even let me help around the station.” His family tree is filled with first responders going back generations. 

 

But one person is always at the top of the list, the firefighter everyone else calls “Captain” and William Taggart calls “mom.” 

 

“This year I got to do some brush fire work with mom,” he says. “That was when it really hit me. I’m so fortunate to work alongside her.”
